by Joseph Karl Benedikt, Freiherr von Eichendorff (1788 - 1857)

Marienlied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wenn in's Land die Wetter hängen
Und der Mensch erschrocken steht,
Wendet, wie mit Glockenklängen
Die Gewitter Dein Gebet,
Und wo aus den grauen Wogen
Weinend auftaucht das Gefild,
Segnest Du's vom Regenbogen --
Mutter, ach, wie bist Du mild!

Wenn 's einst dunkelt auf den Gipfeln
Und der kühle Abend sacht
Niederrauschet in den Wipfeln:
O Maria, heil'ge Nacht!
Laß' mich nimmer wie die Andern,
Decke zu der letzten Ruh
Mütterlich den müden Wandrer
Mit dem Sternenmantel zu.

Confirmed with Joseph von Eichendorff, Sämtliche Gedichte und Versepen, Frankfurt am Main und Leipzig: Insel Verlag, 2001, pages 435-436.
