den spreder guld på sky
går over hav og bjergetop
går over land og by

Den kommer fra den favre kyst
hvor Paradiset lå;
den bringer lys og liv og lyst
til store og til små.

Den hilser os endnu så smukt
fra Edens morgenrød -
hvor træet stod med evig frugt,
hvor livets væld udflød.

Den hilser os fra livets hjem
hvor størst Guds lys oprandt
med stjernen over Betlehem
som Østens vise fandt.

Og med Guds sol udgår fra øst
en himmelsk glans på jord
et glimt fra Paradisets kyst
hvor livets abild gror.

Og alle stjerner neje sig
hvor østens sol går frem
den synes dem hin stjerne lig
der stod ved Betlehem.

Du soles sol fra Betlehem!
hav tak og lov og pris
for hvert et glimt fra lysets hjem
og fra dit paradis.

The sun goes forth to gild the east 
and paint the heavens wide, 
to wash the hills with purple hues 
and light the countryside.

It rises from the vale afar 
where paradise once lay
with strength and hope and rich delight
for children on the way.

It greets them from that Eden land,
from Eve and Adam's home,
where swirling round the tree of life
the crystal waters shone.






The sages from the eastern lands
beheld it beaming bright
and traced this glorious morning star
to everlasting Light.

The starry hosts that shine on high
all bow before this Sun;
they hail this morning star that shone
o'er little Bethlehem.

For rays of grace, O Sun of Suns,
our hymns of thanks arise,
for daily shining news of hope,
of life in paradise.
