Der Wind geht rauh und wimmernd
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Der Wind geht rauh und wimmernd,
Der Himmel trübt sich schwer,
Die Kürbisblätter wanken
So fröstelnd hin und her.
Das arme Zigeunermädchen
Spinnt ihren Faden lang,
Der Blick ist ihr so müde,
Das Herz ist ihr so bang.
"Mein Lager ist so frostig,
Ich bin so braun und arm.
Sein Antlitz ist so lieblich,
Sein Heim, das ist so warm."
"Ich bin die Unkrautsblüthe,
Die er im Geh'n erblickt:
Er ist der Sturm, der stolze,
Der mich im Weh'n zerflückt!"

The wind blows roughly and moaningly
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The wind blows roughly and moaningly,
The sky is darkening ominously,
Shivering, the pumpkin leaves
Sway back and forth.
The poor gypsy girl
Is spinning her thread a long time,
Her gaze is so weary,
Her heart is so anxious.
"My bed is so chilly,
I am so brown and poor.
His face is so charming,
His home, it is so warm."
"I am the blossom of a weed
That he spotted in passing:
He is the storm, the proud storm
That plucked me to pieces with its blowing!"
