Hinter Büschen, hinterm Laub, sitzt der Vogel, lauscht der Raub, Nur der Adler schwingt die Flügel, über Berge, über Hügel, und der hung're Geier stiehlt frei am Tage, ohne Schild; alle andern lauschen spähn mit den Füchsen, auf den Zeh'n! Brechen vor und fallen her, unerwartet, ungefähr. Selbst der Löwe und der Tiger, die gebor'nen edlen Sieger, brauchen Kniffe, sind gewandt und nicht einmal noch gerannt, wenn's gezischelt in der Näh', wie die Schlange auf der Späh'!
