by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926)

O gäbs doch Sterne, die nicht bleichen
Language: German (Deutsch)
O gäbs doch Sterne, die nicht bleichen,
wenn schon der Tag den Ost besäumt ;
von solchen Sternen ohnegleichen
hat meine Seele oft geträumt.

Von Sternen, die so milde blinken,
daß dort das Auge landen mag,
das müde ward vom Sonnetrinken
an einem goldnen Sommertag.

Und schlichen hoch ins Weltgetriebe
sich wirklich solche Sterne ein, -
sie müßten der verborgnen Liebe
und allen Dichtern heilig sein.
