Berceuse

Lullaby
Language: English  after the French (Français)
When the child falls asleep in his white cradle
His guardian angel, with a very slow movement,
Takes [the child] in his arms, smiles, and takes flight,
And upon his hair places a halo.
Thus each night the little children
Go across the starry skies
Toward paradise, guided by the angels,
The little children lost in their swaddling clothes.
The mother, keeping watch over the cradle all white,
Sees the child smiling and thinks, trembling:
“The sky is so beautiful! As long as he returns!”
And the Virgin Mother then brings him back.
