Wie ist die Welt so kunterbunt!
Die Mutter, der Vater, der Kettenhund,
die Bäume im Garten, die Rasenbank,
das Bilderbuch, der Spielzeugschrank,
der Rumpelwagen, der Sonnenschein:
muß alles in Strampelchens Augen hinein!

How the world is such a play of colours!
Mother, father, the dog on a chain,
the trees in the garden, the grassy seat,
the picture book, the toy cupboard,
the wagon loaded with things, the sunshine:
everything must be taken in by the little kicking baby's eyes!
