Könnt ihr das Paradies zurückbeschwören;

Den Mund umsäuselt himmlisches Vergnügen.
O schweige, Welt, mit deinen lauten Lügen,
Die Wahrheit dieses Traumes nicht zu stören!
Laß mich das Kind im Traume sprechen hören
Und mich, vergessend, in die Unschuld fügen!
Das Kind, nicht ahnend mein bewegtes Lauschen,
Mit dunklen Lauten hat mein Herz gesegnet,
Mehr als im stillen Wald des Baumes Rauschen;
Ein tiefres Heimweh hat mich überfallen,
Als wenn es auf die stille Heide regnet,
Wenn im Gebirg die fernen Glocken hallen.

podríeu invocar el paradís;
ell somriu dolçament, com si sentís un cor d’àngels,
un goig celestial fa xiuxiuejar la seva boca.
Oh món, calla, perquè les teves grans mentides
no destorbin la certesa d’aquest somni!
Deixa que pugui escoltar l’infant parlar en somnis
i jo, oblidant-ho tot, m’uneixi a la seva innocència!
L’infant, inconscient de la meva emotiva escolta,
amb els seus vagues sons, ha beneït més el meu cor
que la remor dels arbres en un bosc silenciós;
una profunda enyorança m’ha corprès,
com quan plou damunt el tranquil ermàs,
com quan a la muntanya ressonen campanes llunyanes.
