Nu er Aftnen lys og lang;
Kom, min Kjærlighed!
fyld mit glade Bryst med Sang
ved Havets tavse Bred.
Ved de dæmrende Strande
en Pigeflok hviler sig ventende ved
jeg nok på Elskerens Barkarole.
Klinger, I Strenge! og hjælper mig med
at tage de Piger i Skole.

Hvrfor fik I, kjære Børn,
disse Øjne, som næppe fæstes på os,
før straks vi sadler om.
Sad vi forhen til hest
med den vilde Jagt,
føres vi nu, som i Lænker lagt
omkring i sværmende Drømme.
I gør Rytteren spag og from
og leder hans Hest ved Tømme.

Komme vil for vist den Stund
o, min Kjærlighed!
da hans blege, bange Mund
røve vil jer Fred.
Når I synkende for Eders Fod ham ser,
hjælper ej Flugt og Forstillelse mer;
I rejser ham med Eders Hænder.
Klinger, I Strenge! og hjælper mig med
at vise, hvor Legen ender.

Une troupe de jeunes filles se repose, attendant
Que je chante la barcarolle de l'amoureux.
Résonnez, ô cordes ! et aidez-moi
À faire l'école aux jeunes filles.

Pourquoi avez-vous, chères enfants,
Ces yeux, qui à peine fixés sur nous,
Nous font aussitôt changer de conduite ?
Autrefois nous chevauchions,
Emportés par des chasses sauvages ;
À présent, comme enchaînés,
Nous errons dans une nuée des rêves.
Vous rendez le cavalier doux et docile,
Et vous guidez son cheval par les rênes.

L’heure viendra sûrement
