Was quälst du mich, o Mißgeschick!
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT FRE ITA
Was quälst du mich, o Mißgeschick!
Will der Gedanke mich nicht fliehen?
Ich sauge Lust aus ihrem Blick.
Hinweg! Ach, mächtig fühl'ich's glühen!

In tiefbewegter Brust
regt sich ein leises Sehnen,
kaum meiner selbst bewußt,
darf ich dies Glück nicht wähnen.

O schweig, betrognes Herz!
Verstummt, vergebne Klagen!
Dem Manne ziemt nicht Schmerz,
er muß mit Fassung tragen.

Perchè mi affliggi, cattiva sorte!
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
Perché mi affliggi, cattiva sorte!
Finirà mai questo pensiero?
Ricavo gioia dallo sguardo suo.
Via di qua! Mi sento tutto bruciare!

Nell'animo profondamente turbato
si desta una tenera brama,
di cui ho appena coscienza,
e questa gioia non oso immaginare.

Taci, cuore ingannato!
Vani lamenti, tacete voi pure!
Un uomo non mostra il dolore,
ma con fermezza lo deve sopportare.
