Will der Gedanke mich nicht fliehen?
Ich sauge Lust aus ihrem Blick.
Hinweg! Ach, mächtig fühl'ich's glühen!

In tiefbewegter Brust
regt sich ein leises Sehnen,
kaum meiner selbst bewußt,
darf ich dies Glück nicht wähnen.

O schweig, betrognes Herz!
Verstummt, vergebne Klagen!
Dem Manne ziemt nicht Schmerz,
er muß mit Fassung tragen.
