Abschied vom Rigi
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich steig' in's tiefe Thal hinab
Zu Goldau's stillen Gründen.
Die Alpenros' schmückt Hut und Stab,
Die Pilgrin half sie winden.
Ich juble stumm.
O Rigi, du mein Alpenland,
Wo ich die reinste Freude fand.
Leb' wohl, leb' wohl,
Ich muß dich meiden,
Für lange scheiden!
So schreit' ich wie im Traum dahin
Vom Kulm zum Staffel nieder.
Grüß Gott dich, liebe Pilgerin,
Ade, ihr trauten Brüder!
Ich juble stumm.
O Rigi, du mein Alpenland,
Wo ich die reinste Freude fand.
Leb' wohl, leb' wohl,
Ich muß dich meiden,
Für lange scheiden!
Am Kirchlein zieh' ich still vorbei,
Der heil'gen Wallfahrtsstätte;
Zu Dossen lockt mich die Schalmei,
Daß ich noch oben bete!
Ich juble stumm.
O Rigi, du mein Alpenland,
Wo ich die reinste Freude fand.
Leb' wohl, leb' wohl,
Ich muß dich meiden,
Für lange scheiden!
Vom Dächlein blick' ich in das Thal,
Die Scheideck grüßt hernieder.
Mich dünkt, es rauscht der Wasserfall
Mir seine Abschiedslieder.
Ich juble stumm.
O Rigi, du mein Alpenland,
Wo ich die reinste Freude fand.
Leb' wohl, leb' wohl,
Ich muß dich meiden,
Für lange scheiden!

Farewell from Mount Rigi
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I descend into the deep valley
To the quiet depths of Goldau.
Alpine roses adorn my hat and staff,
The pilgrim girl helped twine them.
I rejoice mutely.
Oh Rigi, you my alpine land,
Where I found the purest joy.
Farewell, farewell,
I must go away from you,
Must part for a long time!
Thus I stride along as if in a dream
From the Kulm down to the Staffel.
God greet you, dear pilgrim girl,
Adieu, ye familiar brethren!
I rejoice mutely.
Oh Rigi, you my alpine land,
Where I found the purest joy.
Farewell, farewell,
I must go away from you,
Must part for a long time!
I pass silently by the little church,
The holy pilgrimage site;
The shepherd's pipe entices me to Dossen
So that I may yet pray up there!
I rejoice mutely.
Oh Rigi, you my alpine land,
Where I found the purest joy.
Farewell, farewell,
I must go away from you,
Must part for a long time!
From the little roof I gaze into the valley,
The Scheideck pass sends a greeting down to me.
It seems as if the rushing waterfall
Is sending me its farewell songs.
I rejoice mutely.
Oh Rigi, you my alpine land,
Where I found the purest joy.
Farewell, farewell,
I must go away from you,
Must part for a long time!
