Zu den Waffen

Vom Angesicht die Mask' herab!
Es schlägt die Geisterstunde:
Der Geist erstehet aus dem Grab
Mit neuem Tag im Bunde!
Und ihr gebt noch den Herren Dank,
Dass sie euch so vergnügen?
Ob falsch ihr Spiel, ob Gift ihr Trank,
Ob ihre Worte Lügen?
Weh! Ohren zu haben und Augenlicht
Und sehn nicht dürfen und hören nicht!

Ihr ahnet nicht das Gaukelspiel,
Das ihr geäfft umlungert;
Ihr hoffet stets, ihr hoffet viel,
Und quält euch, friert und hungert.
Noch gibt es Linnen, gibt noch Brot,
Zu speisen euch, zu kleiden:
Ein Wort, ein Wort' und eure Not
Verwandelt sich in Freuden!
O Qual, zu tragen ein Herz so voll
Und knirschen müssen in stummem Groll!

Stolz ragt die Zwingburg Giebelfeld,
Die Zeichendeuter weisen
Empor und wollen aller Welt
Sein mystisch Dreieck preisen.
Das Reich, die Kraft, die Herrlichkeit!
Schaut auf, dass ihr nicht wittert,
Wie unten klafft die Fuge weit,
Und Säul' und Angel zittert!
Ha, fühlen des Armes gewalt'ge Sucht -
Und führen nicht können des Schlages Wucht!

Traieu-vos la màscara de la cara!
Sona l’hora dels esperits:
els esperits surten de la tomba
ensems amb el nou dia!
I vosaltres agraïu encara els senyors
per donar-vos aital esbargiment?
A despit que llur joc sigui fals, llur beguda un verí,
i llurs paraules mentides?
Ai! Tenir orelles i ulls
i no poder veure ni sentir!

No podeu imaginar el joc de mans
que us ha enganyat mentre gandulejàveu;
vosaltres sempre espereu, moltes coses espereu,
i us turmenteu, passeu fred i gana.
Encara hi ha roba, encara hi ha pa,
per nodrir-vos, per vestir-vos:
una paraula, una única paraula, i la vostra fretura
es podria transformar en joia!
Oh turment! Portar un cor tan ple
i haver de cruixir de dents en una muda rancúnia!

Altiu s’eleva el timpà del castell,
els endevins assenyalen al cel
i volen lloar a tot el món
llur místic triangle.
L’imperi, el poder, la glòria!
Mireu cap amunt, per tal que no us adoneu
de com a baix s’entreobren les juntures,
i de com les columnes i les xarneres tremolen!
Ah, sentir la poderosa pruïja als braços
i no poder executar un cop de força!
