Verlaßne Nester hängen am Bache in den Weiden,
die Zittergräser beben im Winde auf der Haiden.
Oh Lieber, warum wandte
sich von mir deine Glut?
O Herz, mein Herz, wie wehe
dein Bangen thut!

Am Grabeshügel rauschen ein schaurig Lied die Rüstern,
am Ufersaum beklommen im Schilf die Lüfte flüstern.
Oh Lieber, ach! wer raunte
von mir dir Schlimmes zu?!
O Herz, mein Herz, nun findest
du nimmer Ruh'!
