Die Korbflechterin
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Der Regen fällt, die Sonne scheint,
Die Windfahn' dreht sich nach dem Wind, -
Du find'st uns Mädchen hier vereint,
Und singest uns ein Lied geschwind.

Die Windfahn' dreht sich nach dem Wind,
Die Sonne färbt die Wolken roth, -
Ich sing' euch wohl ein Lied geschwind,
    Ein Lied von übergroßer Noth.

Die Sonne färbt die Wolken roth,
Ein Vogel singt und lockt die Braut -
Was hat's für übergroße Noth
Bei Mädchen fein, bei Mädchen traut?

Ein Vogel singt und lockt die Braut,
Dem Fische wird das Netz gestellt, -
Ein Mädchen fein, ein Mädchen traut,
    Ein rasches Mädchen mir gefällt.

Dem Fische wird das Netz gestellt,
Es sengt die Fliege sich am Licht,
Ein rasches Mädchen dir gefällt,
Und du gefällst dem Mädchen nicht.

The basket weaver
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The rain is falling, the sun is shining,
The weathervane turns according to the wind, --
You will find us girls united here,
And you will quickly sing us a song.

The weathervane turns according to the wind,
The sun colours the clouds red, --
I will certainly sing you a song quickly,
  A song of extreme distress.

The sun colours the clouds red,
A bird is singing and luring the bride --
What could there be of extreme distress
Among dainty maidens, among sweet maidens?

A bird is singing and luring the bride,
A net is set for the fish, --
A dainty maiden, a sweet maid,
 A brisk maiden delights me.

A net is set for the fish,
The fly singes itself at the light,
A brisk maiden delights you,
And you do not delight the maid.
