by (Friedrich) Emil Rittershaus (1834 - 1897)

Im Mai
Language: German (Deutsch)
Im schönen Mai, im schönen Mai,
Der Vöglein Lieder schallen.
O Zeit der Lust und Blüthenpracht!
Es klingt die Nacht, die ganze Nacht,
Das Lied der Nachtigallen!

Im Liebesmai, im Liebesmai
Durchzieht die Brust ein Klingen,
Ein Frühling licht im Herzen lacht.
Ich möcht' die Nacht, die ganze Nacht,
Von sel'ger Liebe singen!

Doch, wär' ich wie die Nachtigall
In grünen Waldesräumen,
Ich hatt' kein einzig' Lied erdacht!
Ich wollt' die Nacht, die ganze Nacht
Im Arm der Liebe träumen!

Confirmed with Gedichte von Emil Rittershaus, sechste Auflage, Breslau: Eduard Trewendt, 1880. Appears in Liebe, page 403.
