Am frühen Sonntagmorgen

Am frühen [Sonntagmorgen]1,
Da geh' ich gern hinaus,
Und alle engen Sorgen
Lass' ich im engen Haus.
Der Wind in Klüften kauert,
Traut sich nicht in die Welt.
Ein Wehen Gottes schauert
Nur sanft durch's Ährenfeld.
Und so durch's Herz von Leiden
Und Freuden schwellend, geht
In lieblichem Bescheiden
Ein flüsterndes Gebet.

Early on a Sunday morning
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Early on a Sunday morning
I'm wont to go out happily,
And all the narrow worries
I leave [behind] in the narrow house.
The wind huddles in the ravines,
It does not dare to come out into the world.
Only a breath of God shudders
Softly through the wheat field.
And thus through the heart swelling with sorrow
And with joy, passes
In sweet humility
A whispered prayer.
