Am frühen Sonntagmorgen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Am frühen [Sonntagmorgen]1,
Da geh' ich gern hinaus,
Und alle engen Sorgen
Lass' ich im engen Haus.
Der Wind in Klüften kauert,
Traut sich nicht in die Welt.
Ein Wehen Gottes schauert
Nur sanft durch's Ährenfeld.
Und so durch's Herz von Leiden
Und Freuden schwellend, geht
In lieblichem Bescheiden
Ein flüsterndes Gebet.

Early on a Sunday morning
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Early on a Sunday morning
I enjoy going outside,
And all the constricting worries
I leave [behind] in the constricting house.
The wind cowers in the chasms,
Not daring to come out into the world.
Only a wafting from God shudders
Softly through the wheat field.
And thus through my heart swelling
With sorrows and joys, passes
In sweet diffidence
A whispered prayer.
