by Anna (Nuhn) Ritter (1865 - 1921)

Er rauscht und rauscht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Er rauscht und rauscht ...
Unaufhaltsam strömt er vorbei,
Der schimmernde Strom unsres Lebens,
Wir aber jauchzen ihm zu.
Wir stehen am Ufer,
Thörichte Kinder,
Wir schauen hinein in die tanzenden Wogen
Und werfen Blumen hinab,
Blumen und Kränze.
Die Welle erfaßt sie mit gierigen Händen,
Sie trägt sie davon in wirbelndem Spiel,
Weit ... weit ...
Dann schrecken wir auf,
Sehn unsre leeren, zitternden Hände,
Rufen den Blumen
Und weinen.
