Der Herbstwind braust, der Nebel zieht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Klage
Der Herbstwind braust, der Nebel zieht,
Das Buchlaub fällt, die Schwalbe flieht --:
O wie schaurig, frostig und trübe! --
Wo weilt der Geliebte? Wann hallt sein Gang
Die Heide, die Düne, die Klippen entlang?
  Weine, ja weine, Wallada!

Sie sitzt am Geklipp, so einsam, so weh,
Sie blickt in die graue, die grausame See,
  Vergessen, verlassen, verloren:
Da sah sie zum letzten sein fliegendes Boot:
  Gefangen? -- Versunken? -- Treulos? -- Tot?
  Weine, ja weine, Wallada! --

Erlösung
Der Lenzwind rauscht, der Himmel glänzt,
Was wallt in die Bucht, maikranz-bekränzt?
  Ein Schiff mit purpurnem Segel!
Was tönt so laut das Siegeshorn?
Was steht so stolz am Bugspriet vorn?
  Jauchze, ja jauchze, Wallada!

  Nicht gefangen, versunken, treulos, tot!
  Nein, König Haralds Schwanenboot
  Holt, hochgeschmückt zur Brautfahrt,
Dich fort vom Geklipp, von der Einsamkeit:
  Die Hochzeitfackel leuchtet weit:
  Jauchze, ja jauchze, Wallada!
