sometimes misattributed to Volkslieder (Folksongs) and by Heinrich Albert (1604 - 1651)
Translation by Otto Roquette (1824 - 1896)

Du mein einzig Licht!
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the German (Deutsch)
Du mein einzig Licht,
Die Lilj' und Ros' hat nicht
Was an Glanz und Schein
Dir könnt' ähnlich sein.
Nur daß dein stolzer Mut
Der Schönheit Unrecht thut.

All mein Glück entschwand,
Ich zieh durchs weite Land,
Wo ich schau umher
Giebt's nicht Tröstung mehr.
Doch du kennst nicht mein Leid
Und kennst nicht Traurigkeit.

Geb der Himmel dir,
Daß noch aus Erden hier
Dich dein Thun gereu
Wider meine Treu!
Doch ob's auch also sei,
Die Lieb' ist doch vorbei.
