by Richard Pohl (1826 - 1896)

Verfehltes Leben
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sie schaut nach der sinkenden Sonne
Und Thränen umfloren den Blick;
Sie denkt an die schuldlose Jugend,
An wonnige Tage zurück.

Sie träumt von ihm, der sie liebte,
Sie ringt nach verlorener Ruh --
Ein schwerer, düsterer Schleier
Deckt ihre Vergangenheit zu.

Großmutter, die fromme, sie faltet
Andächtig die zitternden Hände,
Und flüstert mit bebender Lippe:
„Verleih uns ein seliges Ende!”

Confirmed with Gedichte von Richard Pohl, Weimar, Landes-Industrie-Comptoir, 1859, page 72.
