Den skønne jordens sol gik ned

Den skønne jordens sol gik ned,
men stjerneskarerne funkle. 
En større verdens herlighed
nedglimter nu i det dunkle. 

Al verden som en kirke stor
bag sky sig hvælver foroven,
i templets krog Guds grønne jord
er skjult som et blad fra skoven. 

På mindste blad i største skov
har glade skabninger hjemme,
hvor liv sig rører til Guds lov,
det mindste han ej vil glemme. 

Gud! i din hånd alt stort er småt,
men kært det mindste tillige. 
Den barnesjæl er bjærget godt,
som skjuler sig i dit rige!

Le beau soleil de la terre s'est couché

Le beau soleil de la terre s'est couché,
mais la cohorte des étoiles brille.
La splendeur d'un monde plus grand
éclaire maintenant l'obscurité.

Le monde entier, comme une grande église,
forme au delà des nuages une arche dans le ciel,
dans un coin du temple de Dieu, la verte terre
est cachée comme une feuille dans une forêt.

La plus petite feuille de la plus grande forêt
est le siège de la joyeuse Création,
où la vie s'agite pour l'amour de Dieu
qui n'oublie pas même le plus petit.

Dieu ! Dans ta main même le grand est petit,
et en outre tu chéris même le plus petit.
L'âme d'un enfant est bien gardée
quand elle s'abrite dans ton royaume !
