I alle de riger og lande,
hvorhen jeg i verden fo'r,
jeg fægted med åben pande
for, hvad jeg for alvor tror. 

En ørn var mit hjelmemærke,
på brynjen stod korsets tegn,
på skjold bar jeg løverne stærke
i hjerternes milde hegn. 

Når mænd jeg kasted min handske,
opslog jeg min ridderhjelm,
de så, jeg var Holger Danske
og ingen formummet skælm. 

Vil dansken i verden fægte,
men dølger åsyn og navn,
jeg ved, hans ånd er ej ægte,
jeg tager ham ej i favn.

Les armes de Holger Danske

Dans tous les royaumes et pays
du monde où je suis allé,
j'ai combattu le front levé
pour ce que je croyais sérieux.

Un aigle ornait mon casque,
Le signe de la croix ma cuirasse,
Mon écu portait de puissants lions
dans le doux enclos d'un cœur.

Quand j'ai jeté mon gant,
puis soulevé mon heaume de chevalier,
on vit que j'étais Holger Danske,
et pas un farceur déguisé.

Si un danois voulait combattre dans le monde
mais dissimulait son visage et son nom,
je saurais qu'il n'a pas l'esprit droit,
et je ne le prendrais pas dans mes bras.
