Επί άρματος λευκού που τέσσαρες ημίονοι
πάλλευκοι σύρουν, με κοσμήματ’ αργυρά,
φθάνω εκ Μιλήτου εις τον Λάτμον. Ιερά
τελών — θυσίας και σπονδάς — τω Ενδυμίωνι,
από την Aλεξάνδρειαν έπλευσα εν τριήρει πορφυρά.—
Ιδού το άγαλμα. Εν εκστάσει βλέπω νυν
του Ενδυμίωνος την φημισμένην καλλονήν.
Ιάσμων κάνιστρα κενούν οι δούλοι μου. κ’ ευοίωνοι
επευφημίαι εξύπνησαν αρχαίων χρόνων ηδονήν.

Je suis venu de Milet à Latmos. Pour effectuer
Les rites sacrés -- sacrifices et libations -- en l'honneur d'Endymion,
J'ai navigué d'Alexandrie dans une trirème pourpre.
Et voici la statue. En extase je vois maintenant
La beauté célèbre d'Endymion.
Mes esclaves vident les paniers de jasmin
Et les hommages de bon augure font revivre le plaisir des anciens jours.
