If I take a holiday from my love making,
You who are true lovers please don't blame me;
I have suffered in it more terrible grief
Than they suffer who swim in the sea.
For loving so much is still losing so much,
Since I cannot get from her a single glance
Unless one so harsh it breaks my heart;
So I'm taking a holiday, before it's too late.

Translator's note for line 5: An attempt to parallel "tant aymer ... tant amer". Literally, "For to love her so much is still too bitter for me"
