by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

Ik voele alsdat mijn tong herleeft, viva
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Ik voele alsdat mijn tong herleeft, viva,
[om dat]1 mijn hert weêr blijdschap heeft, viva;
het is Maria, [zuivere]2 Maagd,
die boven al mij wel behaagt:
Ave Maria!

De locht is als een groot casteel, viva,
bewoond door vogels vlugge en veel, viva;
de wolken liggen als een baan,
bedekt met duizend roozenblaân,
Viva Maria!

De vruchten rijpen goed en schoon, viva,
na langen arbeid valt de loon, viva;
wij werken geern, wij zingen klaar,
want blij zijn is een deugd, voorwaar,
Ave Maria!

Maria's kinderen, altemaal, viva,
wij doen gelijk de nachtegaal, viva:
van 's morgens vroeg, al voor den dag,
herhaalt hij voor die 't hooren mag:
Viva Maria!

Weest willekom, Gods Engel zoet, viva,
die onze Moeder hebt gegroet, viva,
en die ons daaglijks, menigmaal,
doet zeggen, in uwe eigen taal:
Ave Maria!

Lofweerde Maged, onbevlekt, viva,
tot mij uw milde hand uitstrekt, viva;
bevrijdt ons al, zoo kleen als groot,
van helsch gespuis en kwade dood.
Viva Maria!
