by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

Daar zat, in 't gers, een blommeken
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Daar zat, in 't gers, een blommeken
zoo liefelijk gedoken;
het hadde geren, luide en lang,
zijn eigen woord gesproken.
De zonne zei: 'Staat op, mijn kind,
ontluikt uwe oogskens, welgezind,
en lacht uw' moeder tegen:
noch wind en zal u schade doen,
noch hagelslag, noch regen!'

't Had wortels in den taaien grond,
dat blommeken, verkoren;
en 't bloeide geren, vrij een blij,
daar 't weunde en was geboren;
't zou menig lente kommen zien,
't zou menig meidag omme zien,
en menig najaar sterven,
maar nooit en zou dat blommeken,
ten gronde toe, bederven.

De Leye liep erlangs, zoo zoet,
zoo lavend, in heur loopen;
de vogel kwam er drinken bij,
en liederen verkoopen;
de meiskes en de mannekens,
de Grietjes en de Jannekens,
ze kwamen en ze zagen -
't hiet Vlanderland! - dat blommeken
zoo geren ... in die dagen!
