Meidag

De kerzelaar zijn trouwgewaad heeft aangedaan: vandage moet hij, meidag is 't, ter bruiloft gaan. Elk taksken is een priem nu, die, bewonden, wit, tot tenden, in een' witte schee van blommen zit. Beruwrijmd, was hij schoon, wanneer de winter woei: veel duizendmaal is schoonder nu zijn blomgebloei. Te winter was zijn' schoonheid als een' beeltenis des levens: koud en ijdel, zoo de schaduwe is. Geen schaduwbeeld en is hij nu, geen schijn, maar al dat schoon is, al dat levende, en dat liefgetal. 't Is bruiloft, en 't is zonneweêr: de zomermeid den bruidegom verwacht, die haar was toegezeid.
