Der schwarze Ritter

Ich reite stumm aus dem Turnier,
Ich trage aller Siege Namen.
Ich neige mich vor dem Balkon der Damen
Tief. Aber keine winkt mir nach.

Ich singe zu der Harfe Ton,
Aus der die tiefen Laute steigen,
Alle Harfner lauschen und schweigen,
Aber die holden Frauen sind entflohen.

In meines Wappen schwarzem Feld
Sind hundert Kränze aufgehangen,
Die gold von hundert Siegen prangen.
Aber der Kranz der Liebe fehlt.

An meinem Sarge werden sich bücken
Ritter und Sänger und werden ihn
Mit Lorbeer bedecken und bleichem Jasmin,
Aber keine Rose wird ihn schmücken.

Sur mon cheval je quitte en silence le tournoi,
Je porte les noms de toutes les victoires
Je m'incline devant le balcon des dames,
Profondément. Mais personne ne me fait signe.

Je chante au son de la harpe
D'où montent des notes graves,
Mais les charmantes femmes
Ont disparu.

Le champ noir de mon écu
Est chargé de cent couronnes
Qui brillent de l'or de cent victoires.
Mais il y manque la couronne d'amour.

Sur mon cercueil viendront s'incliner
Chevaliers et bardes qui le couvriront
De laurier et de pâle jasmin,
Mais pas une rose ne l'ornera.
