Es steht vor ihrem Hause Ein großer Lindenbaum, Den seh ich alle Tage, Und jede Nacht im Traum. Der wirft den Mittagsschatten Ins Fenster ihr hinein, Da sitzt sie abends drunter Bei schönem Mondenschein. Ich wandre jeden Abend Dem Baume still vorbei, Er ist mir stets der Alte, Doch immer wieder neu. Auf seine Krone sah ich All meine Lieb' hinauf, Es wuchsen grüne Blätter Und würz'ge Blüten drauf. Und setzt sie sich nun drunter Und rüttelt er sich bloß, So fällt ihr meine Liebe All duftend in den Schoß.
