Bleicher Bettler, tritt zu mir daher,
Wärme dich am Feuer, das ich schüre.
«Mich erwärmen keine Flammen mehr.
Bin dein Gatte, lag im Grab drei Nächte,
Zu dir wandert' ich auf nackten Füßen,
Daß kein andrer dir die Botschaft brächte,
Daß wir uns auf ewig trennen müssen.»

Mendiant blafard, avance vers moi,
Chauffe-toi au feu que j'attise.
« Plus aucune flamme ne me réchauffe.
