sometimes misattributed to August Heinrich Julius Lafontaine (1758 - 1831) and by Christoph August Tiedge (1752 - 1841)

Fließ' hinab, mein stilles Leben!
Language: German (Deutsch)
Fließ' hinab, mein stilles Leben!
Hier ist nicht das Thal der Ruh;
Trüb' und schleichend zitterst du,
Von Cypressennacht umgeben,
Deinem Wasserfalle zu.
Fließ', o fließ' hinab, mein Leben,
Wo die Segnungen der Ruh'
Um ein [still'res]1 Ufer schweben!
Fließ', o fließ' hinab, mein Leben!
Dort, wie still! Was zögerst du?

Confirmed with Sammlung ausgewählter Stücke aus dem Werken deutscher Prosaiker und Dichter, zum Erklären und mündlichen Vortragen in den verschiedenen Klassen der Gymnasien, herausgegeben von Dr. Georg Karl Anton Hülstett, Dritter Theil: Für die beiden oberen Klassen, Erste Abtheilung, Zweite veränderte Auflage, Düsseldorf, J. H. C. Schreiner, 1840, page 432. Notes: Moór's score has a misprint in stanza 1, line 2, word 6 ("nach"). The text of Krufft's setting is misattributed to A. H. J. Lafontaine. Modern German would make the following spelling changes: "Fließ'" -> "Fliess'", "Thal" -> "Tal", "Cypressennacht" -> "Zypressennacht"

1 Krufft: "schönres"
