Najpiękniejszych moich piosnek nauczyła mnie dzieweczka, Mistrzem bowiem były dla mnie harmonijne jej usteczka. Te usteczka brzmiały zawsze jakąs piosnką swieżą, nową, Każdy uśmiech był melodią, śpiewem było każde słowo. Wszystko o czym serce śniżo, wszystko o czym nawet nie śni, Odbijało się w jej oczach i płynęło w słodkiej pieśni. Więc mnie zawsze przy jej boku, wpatrzonego w jej oblicze, Kołysały śpiewne mary, czarodziejskich brzmień słodycze. Czegom uchem nie dosłyszał, czegom wzrokiem nie doczytał, Tom z usteczek [koralowych]1 sam ustami swymi chwytał.

Alle Lieder, die ich singe, sind von meinem Lieb geliehen; Meister sind mir und Berater ihrer Worte Harmonien. Von den Lippen hell ertönen immer neue süße Klänge, Melodie scheint jedes Lächeln, jedes Wort des Himmels Sänge. Alles, was das Herz erträumte, was zu kühn erschien im Traume, blitzt aus ihren Kinderaugen, fließt im Lied zum Himmelsraume. Zärtlich kosten wir beisammen, sanft geschmieget Wang' an Wange, und ich schau' ihr in die Augen, eingewiegt von süßem Klange. Was das Ohr nicht konnt' erlauschen, wofür blind mein Aug' gewesen, das hab' ich in einem Kusse von den Lippen weggelesen!
