I Skovens Fred
Ved Elvens Bred,
Der söger jeg et Hjem.
Jeg kjender der et lidet Bo,
I hvilket Himlens Tröst og Ro
Er venligt tryllet frem.

I Skovens Fred

I Skovens Fred

The wish
Language: English  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
In the forest's peace
By the river's bank,
There I seek a home.
I know a little hut is there,
In which heaven's comfort and rest
Are kindly summoned forth.

In the forest's peace
By the river's bank,
There I seek a wife.
I know a wife there, kind and good,
A genuine, loyal, loving type,
And healthy in soul and life.

In the forest's peace
By the river's bank,
There I seek a grave.
A grave I know there cozy and warm,
Which takes me tenderly in its arm,
Away from life's sorrow and demand.
