In 't nachtelijk uur in het bos bij een bron, Stond een jager heel treurig te staren, Aan zijn heupen hangt stil zijn gouden hoorn, De wind waait hem wild door de haren, de haren. Jij die je in dromen aan mij hebt vertoond, Lieve nimf, ik kan 't langer niet dragen, Jij bent in mijn leven het een'ge dat loont, Waarom wil je eeuwig mij plagen, ja plagen? Zo klaagt hij, en ruisend klinkt er iets door Uit de bron, uit haar haar donkerste gronden, Als een mensenstem fluist'rend de jager in 't oor: "Kom hierin, en je zorg wordt ontbonden, ontbonden." Dan stort zich de jager er daad'lijk in, In de diepte, reeds is hij verzwonden. Daar onder ontvangt hem zijn lieve nimf, En zijn rust heeft hij eind'lijk gevonden, gevonden.
