Allà a la prada hi ha una casa en la que una noia esguarda des de la finestra! Ella esguarda riu amunt i riu avall: encara no arriba el meu estimat? El xicot més atractiu de tot el Rin és el qui jo considero meu, considero meu! Al matí ell navega per el riu, i canta cap aquí la seva salutació, al vespre, quan volen les lluernes, la seva barca atraca a la riba i llavors puc estar amb el meu xicot junts, junts! El rossinyol als lilàs, el que allà canta jo ho entenc, diu: d’aquí a un any hi haurà una festa, i jo també, amor meu, tindré un niu on aleshores seré, amb el meu xicot, la noia més feliç del Rin, la més feliç del Rin!
