by Otto Inkermann (1823 - 1862), as C. O. Sternau

Der Quell
Language: German (Deutsch)
In einer engen Runde
da weiss ich einen Quell;
[der]1 strömt aus tiefem Grunde
und quillt so warm und hell;

er hört nicht au zu fliessen,
und steht auch nimmer still;
lasst mich das Bächlein grüssen,
ich weiss nicht was es will.

Es wandert nicht mit Rauschen,
nicht weiter mit Gebraus';
es kann kein Ohr ihm lauschen,
nur heimlich zieht es aus.

Es fliesst vom frühen Morgen
ohn' Rast und ohne Ruh'
vergessen und verborgen,
dem Abendrothe zu.

Vielleicht nach kurzen Wochen
ist es von Wellen leer,
Dann ist mein Herz gebrochen,
das Auge [weint]2 nicht mehr!
