Was weinst du, Blümlein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations: ENG ENG FRE SPA
Was weinst du, Blümlein,
Im Morgenschein?
Das Blümlein lachte --:
Was fällt dir ein!
Ich bin ja fröhlich,
Ich weine nicht, --
Die Freudenthräne
Durch's Aug' mir bricht! --
Ich frug das Bächlein:
Was rinnst du dahin
Wie ein Thränenstrom
Durch's Wiesengrün?
Da klang es heraus
Aus der Wellenbrust:
Mein Strömen ist Freude,
Ist Brausen der Lust! --
Du Morgenhimmel!
Bist blutig roth,
Als läg' deine Sonne
Im Meere todt?
Da lacht der Himmel
Und ruft mich an:
Ich streue ja Rosen
Auf ihre Bahn! --
Und strahlend flammte
Die Sonne hervor,
Die Blumen blühten
Freudig empor.
Des Baches Wellen
Jauchzten auf,
Und die Sonne lachte
Flammend drauf!

Why do you weep, floweret
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Why do you weep, floweret,
In the glow of morning?
The floweret laughed --:
What a notion!
For I am happy,
I do not weep, --
A tear of joy
Falls from my eye! --
I asked the brooklet:
Why do you run onward
Like a river of tears
Through the green of the meadow?
Then it sounded forth
From the bosom of the waves:
My flowing is joy,
Is the rush of pleasure! --
You morning sky!
You are blood red,
As if your sun
Lay dead in the sea?
At that the sky laughed
And called out to me:
I am only strewing roses
Upon her pathway! --
And radiantly flaming
The sun appeared,
The flowers burgeoned
Joyfully.
The waves of the brook
Rejoiced,
And the sun laughed
Flamingly down upon them!
