А и зашёл бы Спесь к отцу, к матери,
Да ворота некрашены!
А и помолился б Спесь во церкви Божией,
Да пол не метён!
Идёт Спесь, видит: на небе радуга;
Повернул Спесь во другую сторону:
Не пригоже-де мне нагибатися!

Groß einher stets der Dünkel tritt,
wiegt breitspurig in den Hüften sich stolz.
Ist zwar selbst nur ein Dreikäsehoch,
seine Mütze dafür drei Ellen hoch ragt.

Ging' bei der hübschen, jungen Nachbarin gern mal an,
wär' die Pforte gestrichen nur!
Beugt' auch in der Kirche gern zum Beten 'mal das Knie,
wär' der Boden gefegt nur!
Sieht einen Regenbogen am Himmel er,
wendet er unfehlbar zur anderen Seite sich 
nicht genehm wär' es ihm, etwa zu bücken sich!
