by Theodor Kjerulf (1825 - 1888) and sometimes misattributed to Johan Sebastian Cammermeyer Welhaven (1807 - 1873)
Translation by Edmund Lobedanz (1820 - 1882)

Når kommer rosen tiden?
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)
Du første rose, du, som jeg ser
i disse fremmede dale,
med åbne læber du til mig ler,
ej sandt, du kan hviske og tale?

Så sig mig og svar: Er ej rosen-tid
snart, snart på vinger at vente
for en, den du ved; ja, bøj dig hid,
et ord fra mit hjerte at hente --

For en, så stolt og så tro som guld,
som aldrig undte mig det ilde --
Jeg breder hende vejen af torne fuld,
alt det jeg end bedre vilde.

Wann kommt die Rosenzeit?
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view

Für sie, die du kennst, o sag es mir;
Für sie ja mein Herze erglühet!

Für sie, die stolz, voll treuem Muth,
Die Weh mir niemals konnte bringen;
Den dornenvollen Weg mach' ich breit und gut,
Der Liebe, o, muß Alles gelingen.
