des de fa molt temps a la nostra casa,
la meva mare fou la seva única amant,
la bella Lucy Walters.

Era el capvespre, el blat es bellugava suaument,
es besaren sota el til·ler,
una alosa cantava i se sentia un corn de caça –
sóc un fill del pecat.

La meva mare m’ha sovint parlat
del sol d’aquell capvespre,
els seus llavis deien: jo he pecat!
i els seus ulls reien plens de voluptat.

Un fill del pecat, un fill dels Estuards,
brilla com una destral des de lluny: 
el camí que tots han recorregut
jo també el seguiré.

Estimar la vida i besar la corona,
