No maa eg slutte aa vera gla,
no Leiken gjeng utav Lagom.
Eg sprang so lett og gla i sta,
det sluttar no med dei Dagom.
Det sluttar med Leik og Smil paa Kinn,
det fell meg lettar' aa graate.

Det var ei Möy, ho var skir og rein.
Ein annan gav ho sin Lovna,
so gjeng'e Orde; men eg veit ein,
som tykkjer Bringa hans klovnar.
Eg heve elska, og elska vel,
no veit og det, eg ikkje viste.

Eg berre grundar og græt'e stilt,
eg væl maa Taarerne dylje.
Um det og gjere i Hjarta ilt,
den Soga ingen skal spyrje.
Det er so mangei Soga duld 
djupt inni Menneskjehjarta.

Je ne dois pas renoncer à être heureux
Je ne dois pas renoncer à être heureux,
maintenant le jeu est arrivé à son terme.
J'ai obstinément sauté, si léger et si joyeux,
maintenant, avec la fin du jour, c'est terminé.
Cela se termine en jeu avec un sourire aux lèvres,
c'est plus facile que d'éclater en sanglots.

Il y avait une fille, elle était pure et sans tache.
Elle donna sa foi à un autre, 
c'est ce qu'on a dit, mais j'en connais un
dont la poitrine en fut affligé.
J'ai aimé, et bien aimé,
je sais maintenant ce que je ne savais pas.

Je ne fais que méditer et pleurer en silence,
je dois me cacher pour dissimuler mes larmes.
Cela et  mon cœur plein d'amertume,
et mon histoire, n'intéresseront personne.
Il y a tant d'histoires cachées
au plus profond du cœur des hommes.
