Na nebi měsíc s hvězdami a v lese plno hlásků, a na ten šírošírý svět jak bůh by rozlil lásku. Těch mladých lístků různý hlas se v sladký hovor mění, celý svět jakby rozkochán rozplývá v políbení. A přece vím, že v samotě se mnohé srdce trápí, a mnohá tvář že mladistvá se v hořkých slzách ztápí.

Es steht der Mond am Himmelszelt so stille ist's in Feld und Haus und durch die ganze weite Welt, giesst Gott der Liebe Segen aus. Es lispeln leis an Baum und Strauch die jungen Blätter weit und breit, wachgeküsst von dem süssen Hauche löst sich die Erd in Seligkeit. Und dennoch weiss ich dass zur Stund so manches Herz sich quält allein und dass auf manchen Auges Grund die Thräne blinkt voll bittrer Pein.
