Lös', Geige, der Dämonen Schar,
Es winkt mein Zauberstab, -
Stürm, Wahnsinn, dunkles Schlangenhaar,
Sei meiner Leiden Grab!
Doch leise, Äolsharfen gleich,
Besänftigt sie mein Herz;
Ihr Seelenklang, an Balsam reich,
Stillt meinen tiefen Schmerz.
Note: in the version of the Spohr song as sung by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, there are two changes: stanza 2 line 1 word 4 ("schmuck") is "frech" and stanza 2, line 3, word 5 ("gereicht") is "verschenkt".

Voor ’t oog van God, het avondrood,
Gaf zij mij ring en woord;
De ring sprong stuk, haar trouw is dood,
Slechts hunk’ring bleef m' aan boord.
Een dandy lokte ‘r weg van mij
Met zoete vleierstoon;
Zij volgde, vrolijk reikte zij
Mijn brekend hart als loon.
Dat zwarte lucht toch zon doorlaat!
Een lief- en leedverbond; -
Mijn leed leeft eeuwig, nooit verlaat
Zijn trek mijn bleke mond.
Breek, vedel, de demonenschaar,
Zo wenkt mijn toverstaf, -
Woed, waanzin, donker slangenhaar,
Geef mijn verdriet een graf!
Maar zachtjes, ‘n windharp haast gelijk,
Verzacht zij toch mijn hart;
Haar tere klank, aan balsem rijk,
Dooft uit mijn diepe smart.
