High upon the silent alpine acclivity There wafts soft, delicate sun-scent; In the depths of the forest the snow still lies, But springtime breezes whisper about the slopes. And timid green peeps from the cracks Of the cliffs in the radiance of morning! How bluely it shines about the mountain tops, How it drips quietly among the rocks. A shudder passes through the drowsy firs -- There is a wafting and weaving, a welling up and thawing; A bird peeps enticingly and swooshes off, Startled by its own sweet sound. And as if from a dream the plenitude of blossoming Awakens now; and blissfully Through slumber-silent Nature trembles The joyful greeting: She lives, she lives!
