Sur le linceul de neige à pleines mains semées
Mille fleurs parfumées,
Avant d'aller sous terre avec lui sans retour
Dans leur jeunesse épanouie
Ont bu, comme une fraîche pluie,
Les larmes du sincère amour.

Han er død etter å ha lidd meget, min Frue;
Han har dratt, det er et faktum.
Ved hans føtter en stein, og liggende ved hans hode -
grønn torv.
På likkledet av snø er det med begge hender sådd
tusen parfymerte blomster,
Som før de gikk under jorden med ham uten retur,
i sin blomstrende ungdom,
drakk, som om av friskt regn,
tårer av oppriktig kjærlighet.
