Weine nicht, weil Dich die Götter gesendet,
Weil sich mein Schicksal, mein Leben vollendet. --
Was man besingen kann, durfte ich sagen.
Was man ertragen kann, hab' ich getragen,
Danke den Göttern: ich habe geendet!

Weine nicht! Staub ist das Leben und Kleinheit,
Laß mich vergeh'n in der ewigen Einheit,
Alles, was mein war, das hat mich verlassen,
Laß mich das Ganze im Fluge erfassen,
Daß ich es schaue in leuchtender Reinheit!

Weine nicht! Singst Du dereinst meine Lieder,
Weht Dir mein Geist durch die Ewigkeit wieder.
Dein will ich bleiben, in schwingenden Tönen,

Tot el que es pot cantar, em fou permès d’expressar-ho.
Tot el que es pot suportar, ho he endurat,
dóna gràcies als déus: jo ho he finalitzat!

No ploris! Pols és la vida i petitesa,
deixa’m dissoldre en la unitat eterna,
tot el que era meu m’ha abandonat,
deixa’m copsar la totalitat al vol,
per veure-la en lluminosa puresa!

No ploris! Si un dia cantes les meves cançons,
el meu esperit t’alenarà de nou a través de l’eternitat.
Vull romandre teu, en sons vibrants,
ara estic cansat – vull reposar, en les formoses
