Liebe, die sonst stets mit Myrten krönet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Liebe, die sonst stets mit Myrten krönet,
Hüllt in düstern Kummer meinen Sinn;

Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Love, which most often crowns one with myrtle,
Shrouds my spirit in dismal sorrow;
Pitiable heart, that longs for solace,
Hope not, hope not – it is not to be for you!
Gratitude is sacred to me!
It embraces with sweet bonds those people
Who have understood each other too late;
To me, it is a substitute for suffering.
This feeling is sacred to me!
It guides me to the grave,
Until I have no more strength,
And death beckons me to my ending!
