In diesen bangen Tagen Was kann man Bess'res tun, Als, jeder Sorg' entschlagen, An treuem Herzen ruhn? Ja, komm du Herz voll Liebe, Du Kind, o süßer Klang!

In these anxious days, What better thing could one do Than, divested of all cares, To rest upon a loyal heart? Yes, come [to me], you heart filled with love, You child, oh sweet sound! You [who are like] May in the dismal Winter, You [who are like] day in anxious nights! As flowers are without pain In the shining of the sun, As on a mother's heart, A child rests in pleasure; As a bird without worries Cavorts around greenery and flowers; As, hidden in the forest, The deer rests by a spring; So let me stay with you, That this heart may for once Be free of mankind's torment And of all this fearsome toil.
