Schneeglöckchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Horch, liebliches Läuten!
Was will es doch sein?
O selig Bedeuten,
Ei, Frühling soll's sein!
Und hast du im Herzen
Noch Eis und noch Schnee,
Noch Sorgen und Schmerzen,
Nun fort mit dem Weh!
Schneeglöckchen rührt helle
Die Glöcklein so fein --
Wie ist's, du Geselle,
Du stimmst doch mit ein?

Snowdrop
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Hark, lovely chiming!
Whatever must that be?
Oh blessed significance,
Yes, it must be springtime!
And if in your heart you
Still harbour ice and snow,
Still harbour anxieties and pains,
Away now with the sorrow!
The snowdrop is brightly ringing
Its delicate little bells --
How now, ye comrade,
You are surely going to join in?
Translator's note: A literal translation of "Schneeglöckchen" would be "snow bell," which would fit with the ringing imagery in this poem.
