They reach gropingly For my hand, They hang heavily In my hair and garments, To wherever I press on They hasten with me, In misery and straits They keep pace -- -- Woe -- who could help? Lo, something pulsating through the damp Mists with light radiance, Golden sparks spray and gleam Into the twilight . . . Revived, I lift my face devoutly From out of night and anxiety, And around my pallid cheeks Plays the heavenly light of the sun.
